Mental Picks Vol. 50 marks a special chapter for Expmental Records. What began as a Various Artists series created to showcase emerging talent and our more leftfield cuts outside the usual release schedule has, over time, become a fan favourite. It appears only a few times per year and always lands with strong support.
As with every first release of the year, we open with a collaboration from label boss Eddy Romero and Lobo Miro, their second joint effort following their appearance on Mental Picks Vol. 49. This time they deliver a refined Deep Tech tool — stripped back yet powerful — with rolling grooves and precise sound design, built to work the dancefloor from warm-up to peak time.
For the second track, we travel to Kazakhstan to welcome MonoLead on his debut for the label. His contribution channels the spirit of the golden Deep House / Dub House era, infused with a Minimal House touch: crisp drums, deep atmospheres and subtle dubby elements that instantly recall the sound of Poker Flat, one of Eddy’s long-standing reference labels.
Closing the VA, Pier Mood, the Italian artist based in Barcelona, returns to Expmental with a beautifully evolving journey. His track blends deep, emotive textures with a rolling, hypnotic groove, delivering a classy and introspective experience that perfectly completes the release.
With Mental Picks Vol. 50, the label enters its 18th year in the underground, continuing its philosophy of never going unnoticed while supporting artists from around the world.
