BT – MERCURY & SOLACE (SASHA REMIX)

Somewhat impossibly, it’s been (wait for it) … almost thirty years since progressive house evangelists BT and Sasha’s names featured together on the same release. Indeed, you’d need to roll right the way back to 1997 and the latter’s epic 12 minutes on BT’s ‘Remember’ for their last interconnective moment.
All of which makes what we’re looking at here quite exceptional.
Now we’d love to tell you that this prog house lover’s grail-level bucket list item is the result of years-long negotiations between the two houses. It was though as simple as Sasha dropping BT a line last year and requesting the parts. After giving it a first ID-revealing airing last autumn, it’s been popping up on Sasha’s setlists ever since. That’s led (somewhat inevitably) to feverish fan discussion regarding a release. And, well, that time … is this time, with the bragging rights falling to Black Hole Recordings.
Since it gleamed into existence on his ‘Moments In Still Life’ album, Brian Transeau’s remained famously tight-lipped around the enigmatically titled meaning behind ‘Mercury & Solace’. Originally released in 1999, it stands as one of BT’s defining works, weaving together his filmic production ideals, progressive trance textures and bleeding-edge FX.
Sasha has located its “fruit of life” vocal shamanics in the opening half, while quartering Jan Johnson’s dubbed up and time-stretched its effortlessly eternal “reach out for me” refrain in the latter. That comes backed by a drawn down tempo, while he’s upped its b-line chug and swapped BT’s hi-hats for a more funked up perc roll, all or which expand its atmospheres no end.
A genuine moment in latter-day progressive house history,Sasha’s remix of BT’s ‘Mercury & Solace’lands today. Find it wherever thefinest music is streamed or sold[blackhole.lnk.to/BTSashaRemix].
