Full album ‘Mylène’ dropping on 17th October
DJ/producer/live artist/drummer/jazz pianist Rose Ringed announces his long-awaited, deeply personal debut album via new single ‘Blue Eyes’, out now. Following single ‘One More Time’ drops 1st August, with the full LP ‘Mylène’ scheduled for 17th October on his Closed Eyes Recordings imprint.
The Amsterdam producer’s forthcoming album is dedicated to and narrates the childhood loss of his beloved mother, a jazz ballerina, when he was only 11. This primal loss and her early death have shaped his life and his art; his music with its emotional heft and euphoric chords is intensified by an underlying melancholy celebrating the woman and the mother she was.
Though deeply personal, the album is also universal, as is bereavement and other forms of loss. It functions as a guide through grief, an example of hope, of pain transformed through creativity into art and beauty, even joy. ‘All tracks are made by me, mixed by me and all the lyrics are written and sung by me. I took five years of singing lessons to get to this point. The album is my life’s greatest work so far.’ Rose Ringed.
The singles: though the tracks as a whole tell his story, they also stand alone as pieces of skilful melodic house/trance; hence to allow for appreciation of their individual qualities, a sizeable selection will be released over the coming months before the full LP release. These singles belong to the early phase of Rose Ringed’s story, the loss of a mother who made his childhood so happy.
‘Blue Eyes’: short and sweet, supremely and deceptively simple, like a narrative in melodic sound carried by the ‘voices’ of chiming keys and a softly ensnaring beat. The experience of a child, relayed by the man he became with the creative skill and passion passed on by his mother. ‘’Blue Eyes’ is a tribute to my mum.’ Rose says. ‘As a kid I would always look into her eyes and see this sun around her iris, like the sun in the blue skies’.
Follow-up single ‘One More Time’ is faster, with trance chord progressions suffused with emotion yet still upbeat, with a strong bassline and Rose Ringed’s own lyrics and vocals expressing in universal language the hardest part of loss, its permanence, the impossibility of ‘one more time’.
