Goeran Meyer — “Disconnected” — MYR Records

“Disconnected” begins with an idea that has become increasingly central to contemporary organic house: how to make a track feel alive without sacrificing its function on the dancefloor. Goeran Meyer answers by keeping the rhythm understated and allowing the arrangement to evolve through texture, atmosphere and voice.
The result is a record that feels less interested in immediate gratification than in gradual immersion.
At the heart of the track is Johannes Tibursky, whose distinctive vocal gives the production an unusually tangible human quality. His delivery carries traces of the post-punk and indie worlds associated with his broader musical background, bringing a certain introspective weight to Meyer’s otherwise fluid electronic landscape.
That contrast works remarkably well.
Meyer’s production is warm without becoming overly soft. The groove provides enough propulsion for the club, but the track is equally comfortable operating as a piece of electronic songwriting. Its melodic components are deliberately restrained, appearing through gradual changes rather than obvious peaks.
This is an important distinction. Disconnected doesn’t behave like a vocal house track searching for a chorus. Instead, the vocal becomes another instrument within the arrangement—one that happens to carry considerably more emotional information than the synths and percussion surrounding it.
The instrumental version confirms the strength of Meyer’s production. Stripped of Tibursky’s presence, the track still has enough detail and movement to stand on its own. Organic textures occupy the foreground, while the rhythmic framework provides a subtle sense of forward motion. Nothing feels unnecessarily crowded.
There is a confidence in that restraint.
Meyer understands that organic house doesn’t necessarily require maximal instrumentation to create atmosphere. A carefully shaped groove, a few evolving textures and enough space between the elements can be considerably more effective than an arrangement overloaded with melodic information.
The shorter vocal and instrumental mixes offer another perspective on the same material, compressing the track’s ideas without stripping away its character. Rather than functioning merely as edits for convenience, they underline the adaptability of the composition.
Released as MYR044, Disconnected also fits neatly within MYR’s stated interest in sophisticated electronic music, where musical craftsmanship and club functionality are allowed to coexist.
What emerges is a track that feels deliberately timeless. It doesn’t chase a particular moment in organic house, nor does it rely on obvious stylistic signifiers. Its appeal comes from something more durable: a good groove, an expressive voice and an arrangement patient enough to let both exist naturally.
