Out now via Embassy One, the German duo reshape Janus Rasmussen’s ‘Doom’ with a deeply melodic, atmospheric rework of the track originally featured on his 2026 album ‘Inert’.
Following the release of his acclaimed solo album ‘Inert’ on Embassy One in June, Faroe Islands-born, Reykjavík-based producer Janus Rasmussen now invites pølaroit to deliver a heady interpretation of one of the album’s standout tracks. Available from September 18, the duo’s rework of ‘Doom‘ finds the German outfit drawing out the original’s emotional character, layering deep electronic grooves with organic textures and their signature melancholic touch.
Where Rasmussen’s original captures the restless energy and forward motion that runs throughout ‘Inert’, pølaroit’s rework takes ‘Doom’ somewhere more intimate and immersive. The duo gradually opens up the track’s melodic elements, surrounding them with warm electronic textures, rolling percussion and a delicate, understated groove. The result is a patient and atmospheric reinterpretation that retains the emotional core of the original while also revealing an entirely different side of it.
There’s a natural connection between the two artists. Rasmussen’s work has long been defined by a balance of precision and emotion, using intricate sound design and subtle melodic movement to create compositions that feel both meticulously crafted and instinctive. Likewise, pølaroit operate in a similar space, drawing on their shared appreciation for organic instrumentation, atmospheric production and the emotional possibilities of electronic music.
For pølaroit, the rework also extends a musical philosophy shaped by their connection to place and time. Jonas and Marius’ productions have consistently blurred the boundaries between club music and more intimate listening experiences, with their sound informed by everything from Jonas’ background as a pianist to Marius’ roots in percussion. Their music has travelled far beyond the conventional club environment, from Burning Man and Fusion Festival to the Himalayas, with field recordings, organic textures and melodic instrumentation becoming integral parts of their sound.
That approach has earned the duo releases across NORR, Cercle Records, Anjunadeep Explorations, Ki Records, Stil vor Talent and now Embassy One, as well as collaborations and projects that reflect their interest in pushing electronic music beyond traditional formats. Their Cercle performance in India’s Backwaters and collaboration with marching band MEUTE further demonstrate their instinct for creating immersive experiences that connect electronic music with the physical world.
The rework follows the critically acclaimed release of ‘Inert’, Rasmussen’s most ambitious solo project to date. The album saw the producer explore themes of inertia, creative freedom and personal momentum, while incorporating his own vocals more prominently than ever before. Across the record, intricate electronic textures, subtle melodic shifts and rhythmic drive come together to create a sound that reflects Rasmussen’s extensive experience as a producer, songwriter, musician and mix engineer. Having spent the past decade developing a singular approach to electronic music that sits comfortably between the intimate and the club-focused, ‘Doom (pølaroit Rework)’, sees that world opened up once again through the lens of an act equally interested in atmosphere, movement and emotional depth.
