Acid Arab, fluid Paris-based Franco-Algerian collective mingling Middle Eastern and electronic elements, have their fourth studio album, 16-tracker ‘Resonance’, out now on French imprint All Night Long (vinyl & digital), featuring focus track ‘Ma7boubi’ ft. Zeina Aftimo & two previous LP singles.
LP ‘Resonance’ reaffirms the respected group’s core principles – collaborations with Arab world artists, meticulous sound and production values – to craft a soundscape freed from geography, honouring a profoundly humanist unity by celebrating diverse cultures. For example,Acid Arab’s previous globally acclaimed album ‘Trois (٣)’ included Algerian gasba, Anatolian trance, & bionic raï.
‘In physics, resonance occurs when different vibrations amplify one another through a shared frequency’ the collective shares. ‘‘Resonance’ LP was born from that same idea: bringing together electronic, traditional, and popular musical heritages, allowing them to interact, respond, and grow stronger through their encounter’ Acid Arab say. ‘Through this dialogue and through the contributions of our guest artists we sought to create a shared musical territory: the sound of Acid Arab.’
‘Resonance’ focus track ‘Ma7boubi’ ft. Zeina Aftimos: the melodic Middle Eastern sound puts a breaksy jump in the beat and adds a sensuous, hypnotic feel to the theme, nicely balancing the dance-friendly fast beat and vivacious Arabic lyrics and ululations from Zeina Aftimos. Up-tempo and irresistible.
For new LP ‘Resonance’, the group have collaborated with a prestigious list of guest artists including Ghita Lahmamassi, a Moroccan singer, model, actress, and pilot; Sofiane Saidi, one of Algeria’s most powerful voices & loyal Acid Arab collaborator; South Lebanon’s Yasmine Hamdan, a leading figure in contemporary Arabic music with two previous Acid Arab collabs; Damascene Wael Alkak, previous Acid Arab collaborator & songwriter, drawing his distinctive electro-chaâbi music from Levantine folk traditions; Ghizlane Melih, a guest on Acid Arab’s previous album & part of the group Nashwa; Cheba Ibtissem, Algerian singer known for her performances on stage & YouTube, alongside major local music scene figures; and on LP focus track ‘Ma7boubi’, Zeina Aftimos, Syrian singer in Arabic, French & English, who has featured in several films.

The cover artwork for LP ‘Resonance’ echoes the graphic language of traditional Islamic art. The initial strokes of the composition reveal a geometric grid, simple forms, and repetitive units that create a rhythm, serving as the foundation for intricate and complex patterns (see below).
