Viennese multi-instrumentalist and producerTunesmith brings you his stunning single Miss Magicer. The single heralds his upcoming albumSprezzatura available 20th November.
Tunesmith, aka Klaus Wienerroither, studied guitar at Vienna Music University and lectured in pop and jazz history, whilst fronting rock bands. Then, he decided to bring his analogue musicianship to digital music. Hereleased music from a multitude of genres (Jazz, Indie Rock, Hip-Hop, Disco, House.) before turning his hand to NuDisco. Tunesmith released the acclaimed albums Slow Disco and Disco Classics Vol.1 (Rare Wiri Records), followed by S.O.S. EP (Dafia Records)and Substance (Discoholics Anonymous).
Miss Magic (Disco Days) gets straight to it. An oh-so-smooth slap bass line is joined by a valve synth and Marija Miletić’s smooth and soulful vocals tell the story of a breakup with a sting in the tail…
I’m Miss Magic / Let you disappear / Like a rabbit in a hat trick…
There are some stunning samples here, particularly the violins before the chorus and a particular ‘Magic’ backing vocal that needs no introduction. Perfect funk disco pop.
Tunesmith tells us more: “Miss Magic is a mixture between 70s Funk, a House beat and sophisticated harmony. I wanted to go after something Earth, Wind and Fire did so masterfully in the 70s. Real tunes you can dance to.”
I’ve been collaborating with Marija Miletić for about 5 years. I was hosting a radio show about Cool Jazz. Marija was singing live and I thought her voice was pretty cool. Besides, our work on my electronic music we play old Jazz tunes on a regular basis.’
Miss Magic (Deep Tech Nine Remix) takes the original and pumps up the jam: vintage drum kicks and claps, plus THAT bass synth. Delay pads flow in and out of the ether, surrounding Marija’s versatile vocal. Lovely stuff.
Miss Magic (Detroit Tech CityRemix)twiststhings a little more techno whilst keeping its pop roots. Tunesmith explains:Detroit Rock City’ is a song by Rock band Kiss. But for my Detroit was always a Tech(no) city. I had thehonorof watching DJ sets by Jeff Mills and Robert Hood in my youth.
Stay tuned for the amazing album Sprezzatura, available on 20th November, which combines wahguitars, Latin percussion, and cool keyboard solos, with slappin’ electric basses, horn stabs and quirky synth textures. This is grown up songwriting mixed with unadulterated fun. You’ll love it.
