Thus, for the second consecutive year, Be Your Own Studio Label presents Be Vol.2, its annual VA album that tries to reflect experiences on a universal level through the vision of a refined selection of artists. After a few years of the pandemic, confinements and uncertainty, the label will agree to resurface in the best way. This year’s roster brings us Spanish (Gleezy, Idriss Reina, Nau Leone), English (ARVØW) and Belgian (Pjets ft. Elle a L’aura) artists. From the quietest atmosphere to the most danceable electronica. 5 artists and 5 songs that show us the great versatility behind this record label, and that make this Vol.2 something dizzying, that moves with a progression of chords that are like serotonin bombs, and some melodic brushstrokes, which make a bright set. The tracks are strong and jump above the prevailing conventions, knowing how to avoid the most recurrent rawness and darkness, looking for the dance but without predictable tricks and without exceeding an understandable level of experimentation suitable for the track.
The level of production of these guys is intense but, on the other hand, the care of the sounds they release is up to the level of those who do things because they want to and with the time they really need. That’s why it’s about productions that when you approach carefully you get trapped by the halo that it gives off: rare, singular and, here comes the best, powerful, magnetic and danceable. Beats that mark but without burdening us, an oldschool touch (authentic), somewhat eccentric synthesizers and a rather cheerful and festive general tone, are some of the adjectives that we can pull out of our sleeves if we want to describe this innovative proposal.
Each producer summarizes their intentions in this compilation, seeking novelty without losing nostalgia, playing with the genre but without falling into predictable tricks, nor the arrogance of those who cling to a genre or mannerism to show they have personality. Paradoxically, to achieve simplicity and lucidity, experience and the ability to free oneself from the limitation of conditioning are required, and this second compilation is a healthy example of this.
