Welcome to our interview with an accomplished DJ and producer, boasting 14 years of experience in the music industry. With a portfolio that includes collaborations with renowned labels like Trippy Code and OURGRND, this artist has mastered mixing techniques across various equipment. Notably, in 2024, they founded the “No Request Festival” in Paris, supported by industry giants such as Tale of Us and Kevin de Vries. Their passion for music is evident in their ability to seamlessly blend genres like Techno and Melodic Techno. We are excited to delve into their journey, vision, and future aspirations in the music world.
Career Journey: With a 14-year career as a DJ and producer, how have you seen the music industry evolve, and how have you adapted to these changes?
Luca Belluco : The music industry is constantly evolving. For example, from 2010 to late 2018, we were in the era of EDM and Big Room with artists like Hardwell, Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia, and others leading the scene.
In 2018, Tech House took the spotlight with Fisher's "Losing It," which became a global hit. Tech House was already thriving with artists like Chris Lake, Carl Cox, Juan Atkins, etc., but this track gave a significant boost to the genre.
From 2018 to now, we've seen a shift towards Melodic Techno with acts like Afterlife, Tale Of Us, Massano, and a resurgence of Techno in its harder forms with artists like Trym, Amelie Lens, Charlotte de Witte, Charlie Sparks, and more.
And the music industry continues to surprise us with new developments.
Label Collaborations: You’ve collaborated with labels such as Handpicked and Progressive Dreamer. What have been some highlights of these collaborations?
Luca Belluco :These are YouTube promotion labels, which allow you to reach a larger audience and grow your music.
Mixing Techniques: Can you discuss your approach to mixing and how you manage to integrate new genres like Techno and Melodic Techno into your sets?
Luca Belluco : The word "mixing" can refer to two things:
Mixing in production: It involves making the sound cleaner. Mixing as a DJ: It involves blending sounds at the right BPM and key.
Techno and Melodic Techno are both highly rhythmic genres. Melodic Techno typically ranges between 125 and 130 BPM, whereas Techno is typically between 128 and 135 BPM, though there are also Techno tracks at 125 BPM. love mixing these two genres because Techno is raw and visceral, hitting you deep, while Melodic Techno is more gentle and ethereal, creating a vibe that keeps you moving all night while still being chill.
No Request Festival: What challenges did you face in organizing the “No Request Festival,” and how did you overcome them?
Luca Belluco: I'm fortunate to have a team with me for the No Request Festival. The only challenge we faced was promoting the event because the venue didn't allow us to advertise it on dedicated platforms.
Artist Endorsements: How did you build relationships with influential artists like Cassian and Massano, and what advice would you give to aspiring DJs on networking?
Luca Belluco : I'm not directly in contact with them, but I signed with a label where these mentioned artists are also part of.
Creative Vision: What drives your motivation to work in a dynamic and creative environment, and how do you maintain your artistic excellence?
Luca Belluco :I try to take time for myself—sports, meditation, spending time with friends and family. I avoid alcohol and other things that can hinder creativity.
