Dina Summer clearly know their references, but Children Of The Night isn’t a nostalgia trip. It’s a record that takes the DNA of Italo, EBM, new wave and electroclash and pushes it towards the contemporary dancefloor.
The basslines are the main attraction. Tracks like “Fuel”, “Komodo 3000” and “Children Of The Night” have enough drive to work in a club, but there are plenty of melodic details underneath to reward repeated listens. “Bats In Paris” and “Burning Heart” show the lighter, more disco-oriented side of the project, while “Rat Race” adds a welcome dose of darkwave melancholy.
Nine tracks, plenty of personality, and very little wasted space. This is electronic pop that actually understands how to move a room.
