Thirty years ago, DJs were shadowy, anonymous figures spinning tunes in darkened DJ booths to hardcore clubbers. Then, in 1996 a record label called Global Underground came along and everything changed …The concept was simple: Global Underground would take DJs to play a party in one of the most exotic clubbing locations on Earth, then capture the night and the visit to the city in music.
Global Underground were the first record label to bring the DJ out of that shadowy world of the DJ booth and into the limelight. They have been systematically tracking the meteoric rise of the Superstar DJ ever since.

Andy Horsfield (GU Founder) tells us more: “Three decades ago, when I came up with the crazy idea of representing the true nature of global underground DJ culture by launching the GU label, I could never have imagined that we would have been fortunate enough to experience such a long and storied history that we have.
With the release of our landmark anniversary THIRTY album I was determined to look forward not back, so we set about commissioning 30 brand new exclusive pieces of music from 30 of our favourite contemporary electronic artists.
