TRAINING + Ruth Goller share new single: ‘backlog’
Share This Article
The experimental realms of jazz and post-rock collide in threads to knot, the upcoming album from Berlin’s experimental duo TRAINING and London-based virtuoso Ruth Goller. Their latest single “Backlog,” released today, exemplifies the trio’s commitment to deconstructing genre lines through disorienting improvisation and bold, layered compositions.
“Backlog” is a swirling vortex of sound, building tension through creeping saxophone textures and Goller’s grounding basslines. In contrast to their previous release “Finback,” which exploded with free-jazz energy, “Backlog” simmers in its complexity, slowly expanding with new sonic layers that reward patient listening. The result is music that feels unpredictable yet deliberate—a hallmark of avant-garde mastery.
Ruth Goller, a stalwart of the UK jazz scene, brings her years of collaboration with artists like Shabaka Hutchings and Paul McCartney to this project. Together with TRAINING’s Max Andrzejewski and Johannes Schleiermacher, Goller has co-composed a body of work that feels entirely organic. For those who revel in musical experimentation, threads to knot is an album to anticipate with bated breath.
