Retumba la Tierra is the voice of a trembling earth, a powerful reminder of the mark we left on it, but it is also a song of hope: an invitation to reconnect, heal, and care for what we can still save. This is how the quintet Calle Mambo describes this powerful song.
Retumba la Tierra is the second song Calle Mambo shares with us and is part of what will be their third self-titled album.
It is a piece rich in musical elements unique to the group’s sound, combining instruments and structures from traditional Latin American festive genres in an electronic setting that also includes ragga and unique fusions.
In Retumba la Tierra, we hear Colombian gaita, ronrroco, Venezuelan cuatro, timbales, congas and minor percussion, bass, Colombian tiple, cajónes, and samples.
For Calle Mambo, this single not only gives its name to their third album, due out on June 6th, but also sets the tone for their entire musical journey, fusing their Latin American roots with ancestral sounds and contemporary beats.
The lyrics of songs, such as “Retumba la Tierra,” are social, cultural, reflective, and environmental, as is the case with this piece.
“La Peregrina,” the group’s first single, tells of the uphill, risky journeys of many female heads of household who, under dire circumstances, set out to find a living—these pilgrims of the world.
