Hi Jacob, how are you?
I am doing great. I’ve received a lot of good feedback on my last record “Down Wit The Beat”.
What inspired you to create “Down Wit The Beat”?
After I put together the drum groove, the main synth sound came from a sample pack that inspired the rest of the track.
Can you walk us through your creative process when producing this track?
For the most part, this track was just a lot of trial and error, until I found the right elements that flowed together. It’s always a bit time consuming when you’re looking for inspirations throughout the track, but I feel overall everything came together well.
What was the most challenging aspect of producing this track?
As I mentioned before, when you’re working on something for while, your ears begin to become fatigued so the inspiration dwindled a bit. After letting the idea sit for a couple days, I began the trial-and-error process again but found the elements coming together a lot smoother.
Did you use any unique production techniques in this track?
Nothing too crazy. Just standard compression and distortion techniques.
Is there a specific element or sound in “Down Wit The Beat” that you’re particularly proud of? Can you tell us more about how you created it?
I really feel the drums sound solid on this record. I always pay extra attention to how the drums and bass feel before adding the melodies and synths. This is also a trial-and-error process but I would say it comes quicker than writing melodies.
What was your approach to incorporating Latin-infused elements into the House beat?
The base of all my rhythms comes from the percussion, like the congas or bongo. For example, once I find the right type of swing that I want with the conga, I base every other drum element around it. Usually, I’ll listen to some Afro House or other Latin-based genres and look for drum patterns that I can use and then back to the trial-and-error process with the drums.
How do you balance staying true to your signature sound while also experimenting with new elements in your music?
I not sure I have an answer to that besides I create what I like. Riding on a wave is cool but I’m here to create a new wave.
What do you hope listeners take away from this track?
I always put my heart into my music and hope my fans can continue to embrace the work I put into the music they hear.
How does “Down Wit The Beat” compare to your previous releases in terms of production style and techniques used?
I’d say the vibe and techniques are similar but the sound is original.
