With these words and with the release of the single “La Peregrina”, Chilean Calle Mambo join women around the world on 8M; a day of celebration and also of struggle to strengthen progress in gender equality and the defense of women’s rights.
Within Calle Mambo’s repertoire of recent songs, there is “La Peregrina”, every time one hears it, or sees it, since the group has released a live video of this piece, one perceives that it is a single with different artists to discover.
Calle Mambo gave life to La Peregrina and made it circulate from its festive street, the essentially Chilean group lives in Spain and fuses Latin American roots music with current and avant-garde rhythms; They perform live with traditional instruments as interesting as: the quena, the quenacho, the Colombian gaita, the zampoña, toyos, electric guitar, tiple, cuatro, charango, ronroco, synthesizers, percussion, timbales and electronic beats.
La Peregrina is a song in honor of brave and fighting women. It is a tribute to all those peregrinas who have crossed deserts, mountains, rivers and mares in search of a better future for their families. The rhythm of the song, with an Afro-Peruvian cadence with urban touches, drags you to the present, the lyrics of the single revive the women of today who face challenges similar to those of another era. Through this song, Calle Mambo reflects on their sacrifice, courage and hope, recognizing that their struggle is also theirs. Musically, “La Peregrina” includes five members with the following musical endowment: Jhon Valle – Voice, Erkki Nylund – Treble, Guillaume Laumière – Ronroco, Javiera Consuelo – Synthesizers and percussion and Jankely Felix – Timbales.
Calle Mambo has performed in incredible venues throughout Europe: Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Holland; last year, on the most recent tour, they visited more than 12 countries and gave about 40 concerts.
