MAØ Records — MAØ001
A label’s first release is rarely just another record. Before a catalogue exists, before a coherent history can be traced through successive releases, the debut has to carry an unusual amount of weight. It introduces the artist, establishes the label’s aesthetic and, ideally, provides some indication of the kind of listening experience that will define what follows.
For MAØ Records, that statement arrives in the form of Señal Muerta, a four-track EP by Invocamvs. Emerging from Barcelona with a focus on industrial, mental and hypnotic techno, the label begins its catalogue with a release built around raw textures, intricate rhythmic structures and carefully developed progressions.
Rather than presenting darkness as a purely cosmetic quality, MAØ’s approach is rooted in detail: rhythm as architecture, texture as atmosphere and repetition as a means of concentration.
Invocamvs is the alias of producer José Manuel Díaz Forte, a project active since 2023 but backed by more than two decades of experience in electronic music production and continuous sonic exploration. That distinction is important. Señal Muerta may be the first release under the Invocamvs name on MAØ Records, but it does not represent the beginning of the producer’s relationship with sound.
Instead, it arrives as the current expression of a much longer process.
The music surrounding the project occupies a particularly physical corner of techno. Industrial drums, sharp percussion, distorted rhythmic structures and densely interwoven layers form the vocabulary. Yet the intention is not simply impact.
Invocamvs approaches hypnotic techno as an exercise in immersion, using repetition and rhythmic pressure to create an increasingly focused listening state.
That makes Señal Muerta a fitting introduction to MAØ Records. The EP contains four tracks — “Maston”, “No Limit”, “Señal Muerta” and “The Animal” — that share a common interest in raw, hypnotic techno while establishing a compact world of their own.
The opening track, “Maston”, introduces the territory immediately. It establishes the EP’s emphasis on rhythm and physicality, while placing the focus on the relationship between percussion, repetition and texture.
There is no need for the debut release to over-explain itself: the vocabulary is already there, with MAØ’s industrial and hypnotic orientation embedded in the basic construction of the record.
“No Limit” continues that exploration through a conception of techno where repetition becomes a form of movement. Rather than treating loops as static building blocks, Invocamvs approaches them as structures capable of gradually changing the listener’s perception.
It is an important distinction in hypnotic music: the objective is not necessarily to introduce constant novelty, but to make existing material reveal different levels of detail through duration and repetition.
The title track, “Señal Muerta”, sits at the centre of the EP’s conceptual framework. The idea of a dead signal — something that once carried information but has fallen silent — provides an appropriately abstract image for a record concerned with pulses, patterns, interference and atmosphere.
It also reflects the darker conceptual space suggested by the MAØ project itself, where techno is treated less as a straightforward functional genre and more as a medium for creating enclosed sonic environments.
Closing the record is “The Animal”, completing a four-track sequence that remains firmly rooted in industrial and hypnotic techno.
Taken together, the tracks form a concise statement rather than an attempt to cover a broad stylistic spectrum. The EP is focused, and that focus is part of its identity.
What stands out most clearly in the Invocamvs concept is the attention paid to rhythmic complexity. Techno depends on repetition, but repetition does not necessarily mean simplicity.
Distorted metres, layered percussion and carefully interconnected rhythmic elements can create music that remains physically functional while rewarding closer listening. The tension between those two qualities — dancefloor utility and compositional density — is central to the aesthetic described by both artist and label.
That philosophy extends into Invocamvs’ work as a DJ. The project has been developed through clubs and festivals across Europe, with a particular preference for vinyl.
This detail reinforces the physical dimension of the music. The tracks are conceived not simply as abstract electronic compositions, but as part of a broader relationship between sound, space and the body.
In that sense, Señal Muerta feels particularly appropriate as MAØ001.
A label built around dark, hypnotic and industrial techno needs its first release to establish more than an atmosphere; it needs to communicate an approach. Here, that approach is one of density and precision, where the rawness of the sound does not exclude meticulous construction.
There is also something revealing in the decision to make the debut a four-track EP rather than a sprawling statement. Señal Muerta operates as a contained environment.
Its four tracks share a vocabulary, allowing the listener to remain within the same sonic logic while moving through different rhythmic configurations.
For a new label, that coherence can be as important as immediate impact. MAØ Records is effectively announcing that its catalogue will be built around records that function as self-contained micro-universes: releases where texture, rhythm and progression are given enough attention to establish their own internal logic.
Invocamvs is therefore doing double duty here. Señal Muerta introduces his current artistic identity while simultaneously providing the first piece of evidence for what MAØ Records wants to become.
The result is less a conventional label sampler than a statement of intent — dark, physical and meticulously constructed.
The significance of MAØ001 ultimately lies in that sense of direction. The label has chosen a sonic territory and entered it without much ambiguity: industrial textures, hypnotic repetition, distorted rhythmic structures and a strong emphasis on detail.
Invocamvs supplies the first transmission, and Señal Muerta establishes the frequency.
Four tracks, one producer, one new label — and a deliberately narrow space in which rhythm, texture and repetition can become something deeper than functional tools.
Señal Muerta is the beginning of MAØ Records’ catalogue, but it is presented as something more than a beginning. It is the first fragment of a sonic world still under construction.
