Today, we’re thrilled to have a true innovator in electronic music—Nepotek, the mastermind behind Plus Future Records. A British producer based in Tokyo, he’s been making serious waves in the scene, with his tracks hitting the airwaves of BBC Radio 1’s Dance Party and John Digweed’s Transitions. His music has attracted remixes from legends like Mr.C, Jay Tripwire, Paul Johnson, YokoO & Terry Francis, solidifying his place among the greats.
But that’s not all—when he’s not in the studio, he’s behind the decks at some of London’s most iconic venues, including Fabric, Lion & Lamb, Bloop London, and Hoxton Forward Movement. With an ever-evolving sound and a vision set firmly on the future, Nepotek is here to push boundaries and keep the dance floor moving.

- Plus Future Records aims to bring us into the future with style—what’s the vision behind the label, and how do you see it evolving?
We launched during lockdown, a time of reflection and reassessment. Our goal was to provide artists a platform to explore sounds they might not typically release. Many were eager to reinvent themselves, and we embraced that spirit of exploration. The evolution of the label? It’s all about discovery and embracing the unknown.
- Nepotek, your tracks have been played on major platforms like BBC Radio 1 and John Digweed’s Transitions—how does it feel to have such strong industry recognition?
Honestly, it was a surprise! We’ve always focused on artistry over airplay. But to be acknowledged by such influential figures is an honour, especially since they’ve shaped our musical journey.
- You’ve been remixed by legends like Mr.C, Jay Tripwire, Terry Francis and Paul Johnson—how do these collaborations shape your sound and creative process?
My music taste is eclectic, which can make it hard for people to pin down my sound. Collaborating with these legends helped me gain focus while exploring different directions. Mr.C brought a disjointed, wonky vibe; Jay had a dark, throbbing energy; Terry introduced a punky weirdness; and Paul embodied sexy Chicago house. They were all incredibly friendly, accommodating, and professional.
Paul Johnson, in particular, was incredibly prolific, often working late at night. When I checked in on my remix, he hadn’t started yet but had three to do that evening. Within hours, he sent me back an absolute classic. Tragically, it was one of his last tracks before he passed away from COVID.
- As a DJ, you frequently perform at Fabric, Lion & Lamb, Bloop London and Hoxton Forward Movement—what makes these venues special for you?
Lion & Lamb and Fabric have some of the best sound systems globally, which really enhances the experience. Bloop London and Hoxton Forward Movement are great for reaching a global audience with their online streaming. Their respective communities are tight.
- Jake, you’re a regular at Wiggle & Superfreq and have built a strong discography—what inspires your relentless production output?
Jake: Oooo… many a things can spark inspiration. From walks out in nature, to listening to a record that just makes you think wow! Even the most random subtle things, like hearing water oscillate around a pan when washing up, can trigger me to want to go and create something.
- You’ve played across Brazil, Prague, Berlin, and Stockholm—how do these different scenes influence your music and DJ sets?
Jake: This is something I’m super duper grateful about, it’s such a nice feeling going & playing to strangers in another place entirely from your own. I feel you definitely need to have your crates / folders nice and ready with lots of variety to dip into.
I remember playing at PsyApo Festival in Prague and I was the only main act not playing PsyTrance – so it was crucial for me to dip into the more Techno side of my collection and speed things up a little for that particular crowd.
- Nepotek, Your new EP is described as both heavy-hitting for clubs and ambient for afterparties—how did you approach balancing these two vibes?
- Techno is formulaic, focusing on manipulating the dancefloor energy. I draw inspiration from avant-garde jazz and modern classical music for my ambient work, aiming to create immersive emotional experiences. The two are polar opposites and I love the tension between them.
- The electronic music landscape is always evolving—how do you both stay ahead and keep your sound fresh?
- For me, it’s not about staying ahead or fresh. The creative process is much more fulfilling than the final resolved product.
- What role does Vinyl + Digital play in your releases, and do you see one format taking precedence in the future?
- I began my journey with vinyl, and it feels more natural to me. We’ve been planning to release vinyl for some time now, but we’re still focusing on digital releases for the moment. Interestingly, CDs are making a resurgence in Tokyo, and that trend might catch on elsewhere. We might even consider releasing some CDs in the future.
- Finally, what’s next for Plus Future Records and for each of you as artists? Any exciting upcoming projects?
- Nepotek: We have some exciting releases lined up and are collaborating with well-known producers for remixes. I’m taking a sabbatical from September 2025 to pursue an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London. I’m also planning a radio residency featuring live guest mixes from established DJs and showcasing emerging talent.
- Jake: I’ve got a bunch of gigs lined up that I’m really looking forward to! Kicking off with the Spring Tour beginning in Stockholm… then moving through London & finally to Cornwall. There’s also plenty of remixes + releases to come, as well as more Vinyl!
