Released on Sprechen 30th June
L.A. DYSTO and Theo Suess bring you their groundbreaking first E.P Peace, Love and Ecstasy on Chris Massey’s Manchester based Sprechen label, available 30th June.
L.A. DYSTO, the Derry based three-piece of Jonny Mac (Warriors of the Dystotheque) Steky and Shay team up with regular fourth member, Ibiza-based Mancunian vocalist and Lyricist Theo Suess (East Coast Love Affair’s superb single ‘Tonight’). With early supporters such as Purple Disco Machine & Catz & Dogz and plenty in the pipeline, L.A. DYSTO are your new favourite band.
First up is the titular Peace Love & Ecstasy, an acid house number in three parts, Florida’s luminary Ruffalo twins on bass and guitar adding more than a little analogue soul. Dreamy pads kick off Part 1, yearning for a simpler time, asking: ‘Remember the field, where we stood hand in hand? Or told our friends that we loved them, as we danced in the sand?’
The second part builds intensity through a killer synth riff, reflecting upon how we’ve lost sight of what’s real in the current age. ‘The tyrant you voted for isn’t your friend / He’s hunting your loved ones, he’ll turn on you in the end.’ After a return to the dreamy pads of part one, Peace Love & Ecstasy goes full throttle. The soulfully whispered mantra ‘Peace Love and Ecstasy’ weaving through the cinematic scale synths. This is more than a dance track. It’s a manifesto for the Third Summer of Love. And about time too.
Track 2 is the Viper Patrol Remix of Peace Love & Ecstasy. Funky, pulsating synths tune and detune around the vocal in this trippy house reimagining. The original is very much sending a message to your brain. Viper Patrol send it right down your spinal column and into your feet. Superb stuff.
Track 3, Addicted…, is a dirty dancefloor, deep bass, filthy, funky behemoth. When the vocals kick in, you will know the inspiration immediately. A reimagining of Robert Palmer’s classic in the first person. ‘I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, there’s no doubt I’m in deep,
My heart sweats, my body shakes, another hit is all it takes.’ Does something suggest to you that it’s not ‘love’ that our protagonist is addicted to?
Track 4 is Hi Fi Sean’s Sleaze Mix of Addicted… A hefty bass kick and claps usher in a darker acid tweak topline and a sinister bassline, distorting the vocals. This one is going to send people crazy on the dancefloor. Just sublime.
Track 4. Addicted… The Massey Remix, by the Spechen head honcho himself, Chris Massey takes the track in a dreamier, early 90s direction. Laid back, funky and groovy and very much through the looking glass. Every one of the tracks and remixes has a hefty dose of Manchester. This is why L.A. DYSTO and Sprechen are a match made in heaven.
Peace Love and Ecstasy and Addicted… have been road tested to great approval, at Pikes and Paradise Lost in Ibiza, Frequency in Derry and by Jordan Nocturne at The Night Institute in Belfast. Just wait until you hear either track played out. You’ll love them.
Stay tuned for details of a very special Jordan Nocturne and Timmy Stewart remix of Peace, Love & Ecstasy dropping in just a few weeks time!
